WIP Wednesday: Bee Block Finish

I have a couple active WIPs this week and a couple of finishes.
And everything I have done this week qualifies for TNT Thursday!
Yay!

First up is my April Stash Bee block finish.
First of all, I have always wanted to make gothic windows.

So when CeLynn at The Sunflower Patch asked for these I was so excited.
The great thing about Bees, which I just learned as this is my first, is that you get to try so many different things.
And you only have to struggle through them once if its that bad.
This block was that bad.

I am so happy I tried it, but I am so happy I don't have a whole project of these.
You know what my biggest issue was?
Pressing open seams.

CeLynn requested we press our seams open.
And rightly so since there was SO MUCH BULK.
But I failed to get one seam neatly pressed open.
Anyway,
I hope CeLynn likes the finished product.
I hope she doesn't mind getting them and possible pressing the final seams a bit better.
So sorry!
(side note: I did not have any gray/yellow or black/yellow fabric.
How cute is the bumble bee fabric from that my mother-in-law had!!!!)

Next up is a secret finish I cannot reveal.
Its in the mail and will be posted once my friend receives it.
She picked out a diaper clutch pattern and emailed it to me.
I sent her a pinterest board of nine fabrics to choose from.
She picked her top three.
I picked one (She does not know which one).
So stay tuned for that.

Finally, the big WIP.
This week while I was making my bee block (see above) I took the small pieces of scrap fabric, and I cut them into 2.5" squares.

Yep, I am getting organized.
Who cares if I have about 20 squares done and baskets of fabric to do.

Its a start right?
I think it was inspired by my desk move at work.
I decided to clean house when I changed desks.
I completely re-organized... well I should just say organized.
Then I let that mentality spill over into home.
We will see how long it lasts!
Woo hoo!

Oh, and one more WIP worth mentioning.
I have not started it yet, but I am super excited about this one.

February Bee Block

Whoa!

I forgot to post it.

Here is the pineapple block I made for Sami.

This was a tricky one.

But A LOT of fun.

I hope you like it Sami.

On another note, I was MIA for a few weeks due to sickness and two trips.

One for work, one for fun.

January Bee Block

Yes, it is February.

And yes, I did just finish my Stash Bee block.

I have a good reason why I procrastinated for so long.... kind of.

First if all, remember this block

Oh how I loved that block.

But it wasn't meant to be.

You see, when I posted about it, I had made it all, including using Heat N Bond.

A first for me.

I had zig-zagged around the patchwork with no problem.

In this photo you can see I started around the trunk.

At this point, my thread had broke and I NEEDED to post a finish.

Ok, so following that I broke a lot of thread, I gunked up a billion needles, and I HATED Heat N Bond.

Only then did it occur to me that "How could I hate Heat N Bond so much, and others love it so much?"

So I did some research (i.e. read the package)

I can tell you why... because I soon discovered (as it says on the package that I did not read) that I bought NO SEW Heat N Bond.... and then I sewed it!!!!

I was soooo sad that I could not finish this and I had to throw it away.

So sad.

But alas, I did. throw it away.

Here is the new one (which I love almost as much), and what will be put in the mail tomorrow...

In case you are interested, I used these markers for the siggy block...

I had many lessons learned on this.

So sorry to Sunni that it is late.

For this, I deserve for everyone to send my bee blocks late when it is my month!!!

Kindle Fire Case

My zebra-stripe-loving sister received a Kindle Fire for Christmas

(Yes, I am a very jealous sister right now!!)

I told her I would make a case for it.

I have a kindle keypad.

Online, the measurements look almost the same.

I made one and it perfectly fit my Kindle.

I made another just a tad larger.

I will deliver it to her when we meet up on our cruise next week.

If it fits...

We will be matching.

Candy Bags

Last night I visited with a friend and her two boys who are from out of town.

I needed to get those boys to be my friend quick.

The first thing I thought of was candy.

The second thing I thought of was that I had an hour to make something to hold the candy in.

Here is what I came up with.

I used a French seam (love!) so there were no raw edges!

Baby Burp Cloths

These cutesy, girly baby burp rags are a finish!

Now we just need my friend to have her baby.

I did these a bit different than I normally do.

I added binding to them.

And I had some fun quilting them.

This is my friends first girl, so I tried to go super girly.

I picked up this flannel a long time ago waiting for a baby girl to be born.

But everyone kept having boys!!!

I LOVE this owl fabric.

I bought these all folded up as fat quarters.

So I just saw all of the design when I picked it out.

I did not see the owl.

I am hoping I can find the yardage now.

Anyone know what it is?!?!?!

Yay, for another pre-holiday finish!

Friday finish

Here they are.

Burp rags for a baby boy.

All rolled up.

I bought primary color flannel fat quarter set from Joanns.

I cut them in half.

Put a layer of batting in between.

(For extra absorbency.)

Then sewed them together.

Fronts.

Backs.

Without planning it, they ended up matching the rest of the gift for the baby.

I don't have kids.

But I have asked two other moms how they liked them,

and I think I can say they are "mom approved".

Mom's Day

Wow, I can not believe I did not post anything in April.

That's not to say I did not get anything done,

I just did not take any pictures of it.

Oops.

For Mother's day this year, I designed and made a table runner for my mom.

I shipped it yesterday along with the long awaited wedding pictures and video.

(I was married July of 2009!!!)

Even though I bought the exact requirements for fabric for these place-mats,

I had a ton left over.

So I was able to make this.

Which I love so much I almost kept.

Instead I am working on place-mats for me with even more leftover fabric.

Not the circle-flower ones though.

These will be inspired by the Mother's day table runner.

Hopefully I will still get them done this week.

I also have been reading a lot about how to take better pictures.

And how to edit them better.

I was inspired by Sara at Sew Sweetness' posts on the subject.

I figured sewing projects are some of the easiest subjects to work with.

The weather is FINALLY starting to get nice.

So here is me trying to be creative and smart about pictures.

One Week Challenge

I did it!

I set a goal to get at least one of these placemats finished.

I was able to get all the parts cut out.

Then I was able to finish one of them before the "sewing room" transformed into a "guest room".

It is a lot busier than I had originally intended.

But I think it fits my sister perfectly.
