My grandmother passed away in 2010.
I remember going to her house when I was little and seeing one room PACKED solid with fabric and an ironing board.
I remember seeing quilts lying around.
The only time I remember seeing the dining room table was on holidays.
Otherwise it was covered up with something or other.
The problem is I was too young to understand what all of this was.
By the time I could have, my grandma was no longer quilting due to dementia.
When I was in college she moved out of her house and my uncle and dad had a garage sale.
The grand-daughters (she had 5) were able to come first and keep whatever held memories for them.
At the time I grabbed a few things and took off.
To this day, I am not sure why I took what I did.
But I ended up with a rotary cutter, a ruler, quilting thread, a bit of fabric and some other random stuff.
That was in 2005.
My mom & dad bought me my first sewing machine for Christmas one year after I moved out (2005 or 2006).
I had a lot of sewing experience with many simple things (anyone remember scrunchies and beanie baby sleeping bags!??!?!)
In 2009, a few months after getting married, I set up shop in our basement took a local quilting class.
And the rest is history.
I was so obsessed with quilting I goggled it all day long and landed the blogging community.
So I know my quilting is much more modern and different than Grandma's.
She hand quilted almost everything.
She never touched a computer.
I bet she never bought fabric from Wal-mart.
(I only do this in desperate times, I swear).
And I know she was never inspired by flickr, blogger, or google.
This post is filled with some pictures i took at my parent's house this past weekend of my grandma's work.
I have a few large quilts I hope to photograph sometime soon.
One day I hope to make something as exquisite as Grandma's work.
