This past weekend I went with a friend to two quilt stores.
We were supposed to go to lunch, but one of her girls ended up getting sick... in one of the quilting stores.
So we cut the trip short.
Here is what I came home with:
-a twister template (the quilt top underneath is what will be twistered)
-two fat quarters for my next bee block
-a template for tiny hexies
-3 yards of Moda Red fabric
All 3 of these projects are my current WIPs.
I am going to use the red fabric for a wedding quilt for my sister.
Instead of buying a jelly roll, I bought the fabric and was going to cut it.
The quilt shop lady told me to make sure I rinse it very well.
I stuck it all in the washer, NO soap, NO softner, CLEAN washer.
When I pulled it out to let it dry, i found splotches ALL OVER IT!
The problem is, I did not look at it ahead of time.
So while I am pretty sure it happened when I was rinsing it, I don't know for sure.
So what did I do wrong?
Do I have to go spend MORE money on more fabric?
I thought I bought the best.
I don't buy the expensive good stuff (Moda) very often.
And now I am VERY disappointed.
I could salvage a lot of it, but not for this quilt since it is supposed to be stripped piece.
So sad.
So does anyone have any suggestions?????
Please????
Go check out what everyone else is up to!!

Wash the fabric again and see waht happens... what do you have to lose. I always use a color catcher when I have bright red and it works well to collect the 'color' so when you do have this quilt made up with other fabrics you may want to try one.
ReplyDeleteDid you wash the FQ with the red?Maybe it is from the navy FQ. I say wash it again, maybe with a color catcher or even use a bit of stain pre=treatment.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
Oh, that is so disheartening! I would have to chime in with Diane and Sunni, and say try one more wash with a color catcher, but I can pretty confidently say that those blotches were not on the fabric at the shop... you would have noticed it when the piece was getting cut. Worse comes to worst, you could transform the yardage for a future project and try dying it all over for a more even darker tone. Hope this works out for you!
ReplyDeleteI agree, wash it again and use colour catchers. so sorry :(
