WIP Wednesday

Its been quiet here...
Not to say it hasn't been busy.

Two of my three major WIPs are TOP SECRET.

#1
My sister's wedding quilt has gone into hiding in case she reads this page.

#2
My mother's day project is also in hiding in case my mom reads this.
I am going to visit the fam for Memorial Day weekend.
So you can see it after she does.

#3
The dress.
Lucy Halter Top/ Dress for Women

I bought this fabric from Hobby Lobby.
(Shout out to the 40% off coupon)
Elegance

Kona Cotton - Mulberry

I have all of the pieces cut out.
I have a date to make it with my friend tomorrow night.
I plan on wearing it on Saturday.... pending it turns out OK.

That is it for the quilting projects.

Also as a personal WIP is training for a mini-triathlon.
(I should mention that up until a week ago.... I had never run a full mile in my life!!!!)
In order to do that I started the C25K program.
Heard of it?
I am in the middle of week seven right now.
And I can honestly say I am having fun.
Its hardwork.... but I love it.
I have also been swimming weekly.
I pulled out the trusty (almost rusty) bike last week.

So that's what has been keeping me busy....
How about you?

One Thing, One Week Challenge

My goal was to finish sewing strips together for my sister's wedding quilt
and
to start cutting the strips into postage stamp pieces.

I am happy to report all of the strips are sewn AND all of them are cut.
Yay!

Now I just need some motivation to start sewing them all together again.

Go check out what everyone else accomplished!

WIP Wednesday

I am still plugging away on my sister's wedding quilt.
I have been setting aside all of the square sets that include any stained red.
You can see one laying on top of the ruler.
I decided to ignore them while I sewed the strips together.
Then I will go back and just replace stained squares with some extra yardage I have.
Now that I have started to move past that incident, it is not looking so bad.

That's about it for this week.
I plan on keeping my focus on this quilt until it is time to decide on more fabric choices.

Have a great week.

Oh, and for any photo people out there.
I have been trying to document pictures I like and experiments with my new camera.
I have some pics here.
Nothing spectacular....
but getting better.

I've Been Stripping... {WIP Wednesday}

....well, I thought that was a pretty funny title.
Maybe its too early in the morning for me to be thinking.
Anyway, I have been sewing strips together like crazy.
(For My Sister's Wedding Quilt)
I can't say its the most exciting thing in the world, but it is somewhat therapeutic.
It was pretty rainy outside yesterday.
But I have figured out that rainy day pictures outside still outweigh rainy day pictures inside!!
This is really all I have been working on lately.
I do have a sketch of my idea for this quilt.
And an even better mental picture.
But we all know that changes as the details come along!

On another note, yesterday was my engagment-versary.
I know its not a big deal.
We only remembered because it is also the first day of spring.
Well I thought it wasn't a big deal until I brought it up to my mom,
who said she still remembers the date she was engaged.
It was rainy yesterday just like it was 3 years ago when we were in a park.
March 20th, 2009

On a final note,
I am going to the opening night of The Hunger Games tomorrow.

I feel like a kid going out to a movie at midnight.
I am in love with the books.
Especially the first one.
I read them before they were super popular.
I told EVERYONE I could about them.
I was telling my parents about them, when my sister said her students read them and she has a couple copies in her classroom if someone wanted to borrow them....
Yup, that's when I discovered I LOVE middle school reader's books :)

I hope you have a good rest of the week.

Thank Goodness Its Friday

I don't have any finishes for the week.
Unless you count taking endless pictures and figuring out my new camera!

Yesterday I brought some fabric up from the basement
(which is still torn up from water leakage)
and cut it on the dining room table.

Does that get some kind of reward?
I am finally taking over living spaces with fabric...
And it was great since I had a giant table to use for cutting and perfect sunlight for pictures.

I am working on a quilt for my sister.
She is getting married in November.
Despite the red fabric fiasco, I cut it up into strips and mixed it up with a Bliss jelly roll.
I will just try to work around the "issues".

This warm weather is really killing my sewing mojo.
But that is very OK with me
Have a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday & I need your help...

This past weekend I went with a friend to two quilt stores.
We were supposed to go to lunch, but one of her girls ended up getting sick... in one of the quilting stores.
So we cut the trip short.
Here is what I came home with:

-a twister template (the quilt top underneath is what will be twistered)
-two fat quarters for my next bee block
-a template for tiny hexies
-3 yards of Moda Red fabric

All 3 of these projects are my current WIPs.

I am going to use the red fabric for a wedding quilt for my sister.
Instead of buying a jelly roll, I bought the fabric and was going to cut it.
The quilt shop lady told me to make sure I rinse it very well.
I stuck it all in the washer, NO soap, NO softner, CLEAN washer.
When I pulled it out to let it dry, i found splotches ALL OVER IT!

The problem is, I did not look at it ahead of time.
So while I am pretty sure it happened when I was rinsing it, I don't know for sure.

So what did I do wrong?
Do I have to go spend MORE money on more fabric?

I thought I bought the best.
I don't buy the expensive good stuff (Moda) very often.
And now I am VERY disappointed.
I could salvage a lot of it, but not for this quilt since it is supposed to be stripped piece.
So sad.

So does anyone have any suggestions?????
Please????

WIP Wednesday

I just have a quick WIP report today.
I have not had much time this year to get back into sewing.

I did order and receive a darning/ embroidery foot.

I practiced with it a bit & will work on my SewCalGal's FMQ challenge piece this weekend.
(See Sidebar)
You can see my practice leaves, my name, my husbands name, January, March, etc...

I also started to work on a Bee Block.
Its supposed to be a Tree of Life block, without much direction (which has proved to be fun).
I started to make a practice one because I am impatiently waiting for my Kona white fabric to come in the mail.

I don't like it, so I sketched another idea out.
Only time will tell if it turns out anything like this...

WIP Wednesday

There is no where to link up to today.
But here is my slow moving report:

Completed Projects
Candy Bags
This was a super quick project that I was super happy with!
You can check it out HERE.

New Projects
Santa Table Toppers
I stole this quilt block pattern from Sara.
I made a tiny adjustment, so they are not squares and are a bit larger.
I did not ave time to make all of the blocks, so my idea was to make table toppers for my sisters and I.
Well, they are definitely in progress.
But considering Christmas is only 10 days away, and I still have to ship them...
they will probably be for next year!

I learned a lot about machine appliqué with these.
Here is a preview of it:
1) my square blocks become crazy shapes after all the zigging and zagging.
(see wonky sideways belts!)

Ongoing Projects
In A Manger (1 done, 1 needs binding)
Steph Jersey Quilt
Random Table Runner
Bricks In Bloom Quilt

It will probably stay like that until the tree comes down :)

WIP Wednesday

This is going to get interesting...

We are adding shelves to my main project working area.

So I had to clear it out this weekend, which also included organizing.
I was able to sort out all of my fabric, and layout all of my WIPs.
Some of these are just representations of larger projects stashed somewhere else.
Maybe I can finish most of these before Christmas.

WIPS
(1) In A Manger Wall Hanging: One just needs binding (I have finished this since the picture was taken) & I have not started the second one.
(2) High School Jersey Quilt for my sister: Kind of started...
(3) Random table runner top: Should be an easy finish.
(4) Christmas Tree Skirt: Top DONE! But due to construction I lost my space for basting, so i am not sure when it will be finished.
(5) Bricks in Bloom quilt: Started a really long time ago when it was above my skills. I should be able to do it all now.
(6) Coffee Quilt Top: Waiting for Basting and quilting.
(7) HST Girl Quilt: In the middle of being quilted
(8) Hungry Caterpillar Table Runner: Needs to be repaired, basted and quilted
(9) Two more random table runner tops: Should be an easy finish.

Other Stuff
(10) Crate of projects not started and misc batting pieces.
(11) Scraps galore!!!!!
(12) Finished projects that don't have a home (mostly seasonal).
(13) Patterns and books.

You would think this would be enough to keep me on track, right?
Nope.
I started another burp cloth project this weekend for a baby who should be born in the next couple of weeks.

WIP Wednesday (Post #50)

My husband says everyday this week is Wednesday.
Monday is Wednesday because there are only two days of work left after it.
Tuesday is Wednesday because it is the middle of the week.
Wednesday is Wednesday!

I like to think of Wednesday as FRIDAY this week.

Either way... here goes:

Completed Projects:

Christmas Tree Skirt
Strips Cut

Just moved from one place to another.
I did buy the binding for it also last weekend.
Hopefully that will inspire me to finish quilting it.

Grandma's Quilt Photos
I want to do a Part 2 of her big quilts.

Sewing Room Clean-Up
I borrowed this book from the library so I can clean up my scrap pile.
